Does Your Stuff Pay Rent?

Are you a hoarder, or are you a too much stuff haver? Is there a difference between collecting and hoarding? It's a common problem that we all have more stuff than we really need, so what constitutes hoarding? In this episode, hoarding was the train wreck we just couldn't ignore.

To really dig into this subject, we binged watched the reality show Hoarders, so you don't have to! This show originally aired on A&E in 2009, and even though it was cancelled and reinvented on other networks a time or two, some form of the show was on the air for 11 seasons. We were alternately repulsed and transfixed by the bizarre hoarding behaviors on display in every single episode. We couldn't help but notice the similarities in the subjects, and came up with our own profile of a hoarder. (Spoiler Alert: single men over 50 aren't necessarily hoarders, but you should keep an eye on them). On second thought, you may still want to watch for yourselves, and you'll see what we mean. In researching this topic, it surprised us to learn that up to six percent of the population are affected by this disorder. For the rest of us who simply fall into the "too much stuff havers" camp, you'll learn how to charge your belongings rent, and who to call to take away the things you no longer need. And if you're anything like us, watching Hoarders will make you want to clean out your stuff, just in case you need some extra motivation.
